Michael Turner

Remembering Michael Turner

This is a link to an article in tribute to Michael Turner, a comic book artist who died in Summer 2008.

Why is he being featured in this article, you ask? Because he was very skilled and highly valued before and after his passing. While I'm not a veteran concerning comics, I was introduced to his art the same year that he passed away, and I feel cheated even to this day. Even if you are not a fan of American comics, Michael Turner definitely had a wonderful art style, and I would be more than happy to share some of his art with you all today. He was proof that American comic art could be breathtaking without having to revert to anime-esque styles, which aren't bad but are totally in a separate realm of art on their own.

He did art for both DC and Marvel (for those of you who aren't into comics, that means he did art for Superman AND The X-Men, to reference more famous characters/groups) and he was good at it. He even owned his own company that put out their own comics. As far as his work for DC and Marvel, he seemed to be somewhat selective about what he did art for. Most of the stories he's drawn I've enjoyed thoroughly, and I say most only to cover myself statistically.

I saw some images drawn by him on my computer today, followed by an uncanny sighting on facebook and viola! Blog subject. Feel free to look up more information about him and his art on Wikipedia, or just about any search engine will cough up tributes when you enter his name. He was spectacular. A close friend of mine met him in person. I wish I could have known him back then to have the experience.

Like I said earlier, I'll feature some of his art. Click on the preview to get the full view, as this blog cuts off some of the images because of the layout.
